Hotels Vs Short Term Rentals

Most recently, insights from STR show that during 2022 travellers started to change their loyalty back towards hotels over short-term rentals.

There are several reasons why travellers may consider hotels better than short-term rentals. Here are a few:

  1. Professional staff and services: Hotels typically have a team of trained professionals to provide excellent customer service. From the front desk staff who check you in, to the housekeeping and maintenance staff who keep the property clean and well-maintained. Many people are working behind the scenes to ensure your stay is comfortable and enjoyable. This can be especially important if you encounter any issues during your stay or have special requests. On the other hand, short-term rentals may have a different level of professional staff to assist you.

  2. Amenities: Hotels often offer a wide range of amenities that enhance your stay. These may include a fitness centre, pool, spa, business centre, and on-site restaurants or bars. Short-term rentals may offer something other than these amenities or be limited in scope.

  3. Consistency: When you stay at a hotel, you can generally expect a certain level of consistency in terms of the quality of the property, the amenities, and the services provided. This can be especially important for travellers who are planning a more extended stay or who may be travelling with a group. With short-term rentals, the quality and amenities can vary significantly from one property to the next.

  4. Safety and security: Hotels generally have strict policies to ensure their guests' safety and security. This may include 24-hour front desk coverage, security cameras, and trained security staff. However, short-term rentals may not have these types of safeguards in place.

  5. Convenience: Hotels are often located conveniently close to popular attractions and transportation options. They may also offer shuttle services or other transportation options to help guests get around. Short-term rentals may be less conveniently located, and you may need to rely on taxis or other forms of transportation to get around.

In summary, short-term rentals can be convenient and cost-effective for some travellers. On the other hand, hotels offer professionalism, amenities, consistency, safety, and convenience, making them a better choice for others. Ultimately, the decision will depend on your individual needs and preferences.
